Visit to Hobart Institute of Welding Technology Paves the Way for Academic Collaboration

TROY, OH – JUNE 2025 – In a move that signals a promising future for welding education, Dr. Henry Young, Assistant Provost at the É«ÇéӰƬ Institute of Technology, visited the Hobart Institute of Welding Technology (HIWT) this June, engaging with the institute’s leadership and exploring opportunities for academic partnership. During his visit, Dr. Young met with President & CEO Tom Funderburg, Vice President & General Manager Charlie Carpenter, and Skill Education Manager Luke Bailey.

The highlight of the visit was the formal signing of two key agreements: a Memorandum of Agreement to foster broad academic collaboration between institutions and an Articulation Agreement that enables Hobart Institute graduates to seamlessly transition into an Associate in Science Degree program at the É«ÇéӰƬ Institute of Technology.

Founded in 1930, the Hobart Institute of Welding Technology is a nonprofit institution renowned for its singular focus on welding education. With over 100,000 graduates, HIWT is recognized globally for its rigorous, hands-on training programs, industry-aligned curriculum, and commitment to producing highly skilled welding professionals.

This partnership marks a significant step toward expanding educational pathways for welding students and strengthening the bridge between technical training and higher education.
